Q1. Tell us about you… what’s your work history to date?
I honed my skills as a tradesman during my apprenticeship at Hall Russell Shipyard in Aberdeen from 1982 to 1990. I then joined OIL Engineering, where I progressed from a tradesman to a Supervisor, General Foreman, and finally Production Manager, a position I held until 2010 when the company was acquired by Global Energy. Since then, I have been serving as the Facility Manager.
Q2. What’s your current role and can you describe a typical working day?
As the Facility Manager, I am responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the workshops and ensuring the smooth production of all contracts. My typical day involves monitoring progress, managing labour and resources, ensuring workplace safety, and forecasting and planning for future needs.
Q3. What three personality traits define you, and how do these relate to your role?
I am defined by my attention to detail, calm demeanour, and ability to listen. These traits are critical to my role as Facility Manager, where I must plan tasks with precision, maintain a positive and productive work environment, and effectively address the concerns and opinions of employees at all levels.
