Q1. Tell us about you… what’s your work history to date?

With more than four decades of experience in the oil and gas industry, I have had the privilege of working and living in multiple countries, which has benefitted my expertise. Starting as a welder, I gradually climbed the ladder by taking up different supervisory and operational roles, eventually transitioning into management positions.

In my most recent role as a Vice President, which I held for over a decade, I focused on the North Europe for a full-service company specializing in the Pipeline, Subsea Fabrication, and Offshore sectors. This experience has equipped me with an in-depth understanding of the industry's complexities and a deep knowledge of what it takes to succeed.

Q2. What’s your current role and can you describe a typical working day? ​

As the General Manager at Global Energy Group Fabrication, my responsibilities are diverse and dynamic, with each day presenting new challenges and opportunities. I am consistently engaged with both my team and clients to ensure seamless and cost-effective project delivery.

Based at the Port of Nigg, I am responsible for managing and mitigating risks associated with contract delivery, providing advice and support to stakeholders and project teams, and ensuring that we comply with company policies and procedures. Working with management to improve business delivery and enhance performance is an integral part of my responsibilities.

In addition to reviewing contracts and financial reporting, I establish external relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to achieve project objectives. These relationships allow us to deliver successful projects that meet the needs of our clients and exceed their expectations. I am committed to providing high-quality project management and delivering successful projects that contribute to the success of Global Energy Group Fabrication.

Q3. What three personality traits define you, and how do these relate to your role?

Leadership – I believe that the personality trait of leadership is essential to achieving project objectives. At the heart of my role is the ability to inspire, motivate and guide our team to achieve success. A project is only as good as the people delivering it, and I strive to be a leader who brings out the best in my team. I take pride in leading by example, providing clear direction, and creating a culture of trust, collaboration, and accountability.

Planning – Planning is critical to achieving success in my role. Planning enables me to establish a clear roadmap for achieving our project objectives and ensures that we can deliver projects on time and within budget. By planning ahead, we can also anticipate problems before they arise and ensure that we are well-prepared to respond to any unforeseen circumstances that may arise during the project delivery.

Adaptable – In a fast-paced and ever-changing industry, being adaptable allows me to respond quickly to unexpected circumstances, adjust our approach, and deliver projects that meet our clients' needs. Adaptability also involves being open to feedback and willing to make changes based on feedback from the team executing the project.
