Q1. Tell us about you… what’s your work history to date?
After completing two HSEQ postgraduate diplomas in my native Spain, I moved to Orkney in 2007. There, I worked as Quality Manager in the food industry for 3 years before moving to Aberdeen in 2010. I joined Global Energy Group in 2012 as HSEQ Coordinator and progressed through various HSE roles at the Dyce facility until I joined the Nord Centre team in 2018. My career has been very much focused on management systems, promoting health and safety as well as protecting the environment.
Q2. What’s your current role and can you describe a typical working day?
I now work as HSE Manager for Global Energy Group Fabrication at the Nord Centre, which means that each and every day is different. As a division, we make health, safety and the environment our priority and we strive to plan and assess the risks resulting from our work to ensure we achieve our objective of preventing injuries, ill health and asset damage. My work involves providing advice on HSE related matters, as well as liaising with relevant parties to ensure appropriate resources are in place to achieve our objectives. Sometimes it just means having long chats about what we do and how we could raise our standards!
Q3. What three personality traits define you, and how do these relate to your role?
Adaptability – My work and life history have shown that I can adapt to very different situations, which is extremely valuable in an ever-changing industry and role.
Approachability – I strive to make people comfortable with approaching me with any concerns or should they need my assistance.
Diligence – I take pride in my work and strive to make a positive impact with whatever I do.
